descobri os the new year (e mais umas quantas bandas) a ver a série the o.c. a série valia sobretudo pela música que passava e daí se entende que quatro épocas tenham dado origem a seis compilações ou que a série tenha sido veículo para a estreia de alguns temas do álbum "guero" de beck. eu vi a série inteirinha por causa de regalos como esse (na série 2, por exemplo, surge um bar frequentado pelos protagonistas em que actuam bandas como os modest mouse ou os death cab for cutie) e por causa de um geek/melómano chamado seth cohen (fantástico adam brody) que serve de veículo para estas e outras referências à cultura pop, para além de ser o personagem com as melhores tiradas da série. o site dedicado à música da série ainda existe (link).

isto tudo para dizer que na compilação "mix 6" (em que bandas que marcaram momentos importantes da série fazem versões de outras que idem aspas) aparece uma versão deste "the end's not near" pelos band of horses. daqui chega-se aos the new year (confesso que não são geniais e este é definitivamente o seu melhor tema) e ao respectivo vídeo. simples mas bonito. o título do último episódio corresponde às duas primeiras frases do tema: "the end's not near, it's here" (as tais que peço ao ouvinte para atentar, ao mesmo tempo que falo em cima das palavras; erro de timing, mea culpa). ora isto era uma história muito rebuscada para contar no ar (até porque esta versão é claramente a de alguém que vê demasiadas séries de televisão), mas apeteceu-me deixar aqui umas palavras sobre o assunto.
